Update 10/23/23
about 1 year ago – Mon, Oct 23, 2023 at 12:23:36 PM

Hello everyone,

My apologies (again) for the delay in response.

A few weeks ago Backerkit surveys were sent out to the email you have on file with Kickstarter. Currently 80% of surveys have been submitted, so if you haven’t yet filled it out, please do so at your earliest convenience. If you have not received a survey from Backerkit, you may need to check your spam/junk folder. There has also been an issue with patrons that have used private relay email addresses on Kickstarter, so please reach out to me at: [email protected] with your full name and email if you have not received the survey or have any issues filling it out.

If you preordered any additional items, you will not be charged until next year. I will notify everyone 6 weeks prior via Kickstarter and Backerkit when orders will be locked and charged. Once you have filled out your Backerkit survey, you will always have access to your account in order to make any changes to your orders and/or update your shipping information.

The reason for my delay in correspondence is due to the indefinite trajectory of wrapping up production on the book. The WGA strike was a blessing in disguise, as it gave me time to fully focus on churning out the rest of my pages. With perception that the AMPTP and WGA would likely not reach a deal until sometime in 2024, I was tracking to have the book finished by December, which is when I was planning to lock in everyone’s shipping info and send the books off to print. However, since the strike has been resolved, we have moved back into development, which has shifted my focus back onto the animated series.

I am chipping away at the remaining pages as much as possible, but the nature of creating a show like this is a time-consuming endeavor, understanding that we’re trying to create something that has no template, with the confluence of every facet of pop-culture TL encompasses. By the time I’m done writing, annotating the script, taking meetings, addressing notes, researching, etc, I barely have any mental capacity to draw. I also have my primary art director job which has its own set of demands. The good news is that we are almost done with the heavy work, and based on meetings and email exchanges, both the network and studio are happy with what we have submitted.

However, being realistic, this book will not be print-ready until early next year. I’m still hoping to finish it by the end of December, but that will only be the case if things settle a bit on the animated series, which I doubt will happen within the next 2 months. I know some of your concerns are if I have no intention of finishing the book and skated away with the funds. I can assure you that’s not how I move as a person, artist, or businessman. I may be late AF (Trill League Episode 1 backers chime in), but I’ve never not completed a project, and always come with extra content. There have been many temptations to finish this book with a deadline in mind, but I constantly find myself challenging to improve on my illustrative skills and composition, as this book is the only outlet I have to produce the type of work I want to be reflective of myself as an artist (i.e. I'm slow).

Truthfully, I still have quite a bit to finish. However, I promise this book will be done soon, I just can’t give an exact date yet with so much going on. For my own sanity, I’m aiming for sometime in the winter/early spring 2024.

Here are a few inked pages. I wish I could post more, but I know some people want to go into a project as spoiler free as possible.

Pledge Management In Progress
over 1 year ago – Tue, Sep 05, 2023 at 03:07:27 PM

Hey everyone, just a quick update: I'm currently composing my Backerkit Page to collect S&H information from everyone. The book has swelled to over 90 pages due to some additional story beats added which I'm finishing up. Additionally, I will be creating an exclusive art piece for all original project pledges (still narrowing on what this piece will be, but it will be something both digital & printed for all backer tiers). The page will go live next week and survey emails will be sent directly to you. I'll also send out a post when it does go live, just in case surveys end up in your spam folder.
